County of Grande Prairie Council Candidate Profile: Marty Tissington

Oct 7, 2025 | 5:09 PM

Marty Tissington is one of three Division 4 residents running for a County Council position.

He was asked to answer the following four questions with a 600-word limit.

1. What has inspired you to run for mayor/council/school trustee in the Oct. 20, 2025, municipal election?

The inspiration that brought me to the decision to run in the Oct 2025 election was my desire to see the voices of Division 4 constituents be not only heard but respected and acted upon. As it stands now, I believe that there is a divide between the county and its Division 4 residents. I intend to fix that. I am committed to ensuring that my values of hard work and community first attitude are carried into the county office.

2. What skills or experience do you have that you feel would make you a good fit for the role?

As a resident of Div. 4 for my entire life, I am a journeyman tradesperson that has owned a successful business for over 20+ years, as well as being a partner in our family farm. With this comes the knowledge of working within a budget and planning for future growth. I have also been a volunteer on several community boards within Division 4 and am an active dad, coaching my kid’s hockey teams. Over the years I have had the great pleasure of earning the respect of employees, clients and neighbours alike. My experience of both rural life and local business gives me a unique perspective to represent Division 4 with knowledge based common-sense.

3. What do you feel are the key or main election issues in your community, and what are the issues of priority for you?

From what I am hearing, the issues that are top of mind to Division 4 constituents are the cost of living, utility costs, property taxes and road maintenance. These are also very much concerns of mine. When I am elected I will dive into the budget plans and see where our tax dollars are being spent. Giving a new perspective on where these dollars can be saved or used in a more productive manner going forward. My plan as councillor is to be fiscally responsible and accountable, giving my constituents a voice in the County of Grande Prairie.

4. Where can people learn more about you?
