County of Grande Prairie Council Candidate Profile:Brian Lieverse

Oct 7, 2025 | 5:09 PM

Brian Lieverse is one of four Division 5 residents running for a County Council position.

He was asked to answer the following four questions with a 600-word limit.

1. What has inspired you to run for mayor/council/school trustee in the Oct. 20, 2025, municipal election?

Over the past 20 years, I have worked in community relations and stakeholder engagement, focusing on building strong connections and improving the places where we live. I enjoy working with individuals, families, and organizations to strengthen our community and create positive outcomes. I have had the privilege of working with the County of Grande Prairie and its residents many times, and I believe my experience and dedication uniquely position me to give back in a meaningful way. My family has grown up in the County, and I see this as an opportunity to continue serving and contributing to the community that has given us so much.

2. What skills or experience do you have that you feel would make you a good fit for the role?

In my career as a Community Relations Advisor and Engagement Specialist, I have gained valuable experience in areas ranging from Public Participation to Crisis Management. One of the most important lessons I’ve learned is the value of listening and communicating with an open mind. Working with individuals, community leaders, government officials, and industry representatives has taught me to approach every situation with receptiveness and respect. I believe it is important to consider all perspectives and avoid rushing to conclusions. Every viewpoint holds value, and by listening and engaging in constructive discussion, we can work together to find solutions that truly serve the community.

3. What do you feel are the key or main election issues in your community, and what are the issues of priority for you?

Division 5 is a happening place, as our community grows, so do the challenges we must address together. One of the most pressing concerns for residents is infrastructure-particularly in areas experiencing high levels of industry-related traffic. These zones require careful evaluation to determine where upgrades are needed and pavement may be an option. While it’s understandable that everyone would like pavement near their property, we must take a thoughtful and balanced approach to ensure fairness and long-term sustainability.

Proper planning and evaluation are essential as we look ahead. Our goal is to make decisions that benefit the entire community-not just today, but for generations to come.

Taxation is another important topic. Residents recognize that tax dollars are necessary to keep the county running smoothly. At the same time, they want assurance that those dollars are being spent wisely, with transparency and accountability at the forefront.

Too often, elected officials enter office with bold platforms-only to go silent once the election is over. I believe that leadership means listening, not just during campaign season, but every day. I want to hear from residents now, and I commit to staying connected after the election. Your voice matters, and it will continue to shape the future of our county.

4. Where can people learn more about you?

Most weekends, you’ll find me at the Beaverlodge arena, either refereeing hockey games or mentoring our young officials as they learn to call the game with confidence and integrity. It’s more than sport-it’s community, and I’m proud to be part of it.

I’ve also been out knocking on doors across my division, listening to your concerns, ideas, and hopes for the future. These conversations matter, and they’re shaping how I approach the issues that affect us all.

I post regularly on my Facebook account to keep you informed and engaged. And if you ever want to talk directly, my phone is always on: 780-814-4017. Whether it’s a question, a concern, or just a chat, I’m here for you.
