Unemployment rate for area including Peace Country drops in September

There were improved job market numbers in September compared to August in the survey area that includes the Peace Country.

Statistics Canada numbers reported in a newsletter from the Alberta government says the unemployment rate was at 6.9 per cent last month, down from 7.2 per cent the month before.

There were 42,500 more people employed in September in Alberta than there were in August.

Construction, manufacturing, and educational services saw the biggest employment gains.

The biggest losses came in transportation and warehousing, and information, culture and recreation.

The occupations with the most job growth were sales and service; business, finance and administration; and education, law and social, community and government services.

Across Alberta, the unemployment rate was 7.8 per cent, just above the national rate of 7.1 per cent
