County of Grande Prairie reaches agreements with two neighbouring towns

Oct 16, 2025 | 6:00 AM

The County of Grande Prairie says it has reached agreements on sharing costs for various facilities with two neighbouring communities.

An agreement with the Town of Beaverlodge will mean the county will provide funding to the town to help pay for the pool, playing fields, arena, community centre, and fitness centre.

The five-year agreement that kicks in on January 1, 2026, will see the county provide $578,688 in the first year, with a 2.5 per cent increase in every following year.

The county will also pay half the cost, up to $175,000, for repairs to the roof on the arena and will also contribute to maintenance and upgrades.

“This agreement is a practical way for us to work together so residents in both communities can keep enjoying these important facilities. We know people cross municipal lines every day to use the pool, arena, and fitness spaces. Sharing the costs just makes sense,” says County of Grande Prairie Reeve Bob Marshall in a release from the county.

The county of Grande Prairie says it has also renewed a partnership with the Town of Sexsmith.

The deal governs how the two will share the cost of maintaining facilities like the civic centre, arena, curling rink, parks and the community centre in Sexsmith.

The county will contribute $147,702 in funding next year to the town, with a 2.5 per cent increase in every other year of the five-year agreement.

“The Town of Sexsmith and the County have a long history of working together. This renewed agreement keeps that cooperation going. When we share costs, we make sure residents have access to local facilities without duplicating what already works,” adds Marshall in that same release.

This agreement comes into effect on January 1, 2026.
