Midget AAA Storm win thrilling Game 3

Feb 23, 2019 | 9:57 PM

It’s not how you start, but how you finish.

This statement couldn’t be more true for the Grande Peace Ernie’s Sports Midget AAA Storm who came from behind to beat the SSAC Athletics 3-2 in Game 3 of their best of five series.

The Storm would open the scoring in the 1st period on the power play as a wrist shot in the slot by Edge Lambert went over the net, off the glass, and back out in front to Jayden Watson who put it home to give the home side a 1-0 advantage.

Like Game 1, the SSAC Athletics would tie it up early in the 2nd. This time it took just 19 seconds on the fresh sheet of ice for them to even the game at one.

The two teams would trade penalties in the middle stanza which allowed both teams to try and get an advantage on the power play, but it was the penalty kill of both teams who shined in the 2nd.

In the 3rd period, both clubs were being cautious with the game tied up at 1.

With just under 7 minutes to go, the Athletics would take their first lead of the game off a turnover and a perfect shot over the glove of Cameron Beson which made it 2-1 Athletics.

However, unlike Game 1, the Storm would be able to answer.

With 2:48 on the clock, Clayton Brown would find a wide-open Mason Hartman driving to the front of the net and he would make no mistake to tie the game at 2.

The game appeared to be eyeing overtime, but with 10 seconds remaining the Storm turned nothing into something.

On the final rush of regulation, it would be Brown receiving a drop feed from Hartman on the left wing and Brown would find Hartman going to the front of the net and he would poke it into the back of the net with 2.3 seconds left to vault the Storm to a 3-2 win.

With the victory, the Storm now lead the best of five series 2-1.

Game 4 of the best of five will be played in Edmonton on Sunday, with puck drop at 3:30 p.m.
