Special teams power Storm to Friday night win

Feb 23, 2019 | 9:28 AM

Zach Okabe’s 30th goal of the season at the 9:34 mark of the third period stood up as the game winner as the Grande Prairie Storm edged the Bonnyville Pontiacs 3-2 on Friday night.

The goal was Okabe’s league leading 14th power play goal, as the Storm went 2-for-5 on the night with the man advantage, while stopping the Pontiacs on all five of their power play chances.

Tyrell Boucher and Zach Webb also scored for the Storm, who ensured they would finish the season with a better-than .500 record, as well as clinching at least fifth place in the AJHL North division.

Jaden York and Marc-Antoine Benoit were the only Pontiacs players to beat Kaiden Lane, who made 31 saves on the night.

The two teams will meet again tonight at 7:30 at Revolution Place in the Storm’s final home game of the regular season.
