Roughly 180 Days of Water Storage

City of Dawson Creek seeking to extend State of Local Emergency

Oct 29, 2025 | 3:07 PM

The City of Dawson Creek has applied to extend its State of Local Emergency.

The SOLE was issued in response to continued drought conditions, placing pressure on the local water supply, and to safeguard the community heading into winter, as the increasingly low Kiskatinaw River is currently running the risk of freezing over for the second winter in a row.

Thanks to careful management and additional precipitation in recent weeks, officials say the city’s water reservoirs have increased from approximately 150 days of storage to about 180 days, reflecting the efforts of city staff.

The city says it is still under stage 3 water conservation measures, and hauling potable water for non-potable uses is strictly prohibited.

Residents can stay up to date on the city’s website.
