Neighbourhood rink program accepting applicants

Nov 3, 2025 | 2:13 PM

With hockey season in full swing and winter getting closer, the City of Grande Prairie is now accepting applications for its neighbourhood rinks program.

Applications must include a site located inside a Grande Prairie Park, and at least five volunteers to help with set-up and maintenance throughout the winter.

As part of the program, training will be provided, and monthly hazard assessments will be done by city staff.

The deadline to apply is Dec. 15, however, residents are asked get their applications in early so they can begin set-up before the ground freezes and a significant amount of snow falls.

Mayor Jackie Clayton says this program falls under Council’s “priority of enhancing quality of life and building an inclusive and caring community,” adding “neighbourhood rinks are a great way for residents to get outside, stay active and connect with their neighbours.”

Anyone wanting to submit an application can visit the City’s website.
