Canfor reports third quarter loss

Canfor is reporting an operating loss of $208.3 million for the third quarter.

That is down a bit from a $251.4 million loss recorded in the second quarter this year and down from a $559.7 million loss reported over the same three-month period of last year.

Year-to-date net losses came in at $488.2 million.

The company that owns a sawmill in Grande Prairie says in a release that markets are weak because of American tariffs and economic and trade uncertainty.

Canfor says the lumber market remains weak, resulting in that division of the company reporting a loss of $182.2 million for the quarter, lower than the $229.2 million loss from the second quarter.

It also says affordability is still an issue in the housing market across North America
