Recall petition against Grande Prairie MLA started over not getting questions answered, says applicant

Nov 25, 2025 | 6:00 AM

The applicant who started the effort to recall Grande Prairie MLA Nolan Dyck says he is inaccessible, silent, and toes the party line

Casey Klein says others in the community feel the same way.

“It’s almost alarming to hear the feedback. It’s definitely not partisan. These are everyday people from all walks of political background who feel unheard from Nolan Dyck.”

Klein says she met with Dyck in August and sent in questions ahead of time as requested by his office, but was instead given what she calls non-answers or refusals to answer.

Klein says one specific thing she wanted to ask about, and did not get a reply to, was how a meeting at a prayer breakfast in Washington would benefit Grande Prairie.

“I also specifically asked him if he believed in the separation of church and state, and I’m paraphrasing here, but he said that churches represent a lot of people and they deserve to be heard.”

Klein says she also asked Dyck about him attending an anti-abortion rally in Edmonton.

The recall campaign has until February 19, 2026, to gather a minimum of 9,427 signatures. Klein says they would like to have 10 per cent more than that.

“When I did hear that we were approved, I was also surprised because I did know Nolan Dyck had gone in and motioned to underfund the requested funding from Elections Alberta.”

Klein says Dyck made the motion knowing that the recall campaign against him had already started, and it resulted in an 89 per cent cut in funding to process recalls.

Klein adds events and mobile signings will be among the places where they will gather signatures. Going door-to-door would depend on what canvassers are comfortable with.

Klein says anyone interested can check a website that the recall effort has set up.
