Province, Town of Fairview communicating on NWP campus

Nov 27, 2025 | 6:00 AM

The Town of Fairview says in a social media post that the Minister of Advanced Education has written to town officials about the future of the Northwestern Polytechnic campus in Fairview.

The post says a letter from Myles McDougall to Fairview Mayor Gordon McLeod acknowledges the town’s concerns and “recognized the longstanding importance of the campus in our community, industries, and northern Alberta as a whole.”

The minister said the campus will stay open until at least August 1 next year so students can finish the school year.

Advanced Education will do a full financial analysis of the campus and all its assets will remain in Fairview until the academic year is complete.

The town’s post says that while this shows “advocacy is making an impact”, there are still questions to answer about long-term plans and the future of the campus and its programs.

The effort to collect signatures on a petition to save the campus is ongoing.
