Local hockey, Holiday Ice Show, ski hills in the weekend sports round-up

Storm

The Storm will be in Canmore Friday night.

The game will start at 7 p.m.

Grande Prairie has won the first two games on this road trip and has a winning streak of nine games.

The run has lifted the Storm into third place in the North Division standings with 35 points, two back of second-place Fort McMurray and with two games in hand

The Storm are in Calgary for a 5 p.m. face-off on Saturday to conclude the 2025 portion of their schedule

The first game of 2026 is in Bonnyville on Jan. 2, 2026.

NWJHL

The Fairview at Fort St. John game in the Northwest Junior Hockey League set for Friday night has been postponed because of poor road conditions.

Two games are set to go ahead, with Sexsmith in Beaverlodge and the Wheat Kings in Dawson Creek.

Saturday, Beaverlodge at the Wheat Kings and Fairview in Dawson Creek.

All those games start at 8 p.m.

Peace River is in La Crete for a 7 p.m. face-off time on Saturday and a 1:30 puck drop on Sunday.

Also on Sunday, Fort St. John in Dawson Creek starts at 2 p.m. These are the last games of 2025.

The schedule resumes Jan. 2, 2026.

NPHL

In the North Peace Hockey League Friday night, Fox Creek will be in Valleyview and Fort St. John in Manning.

Saturday, Dawson Creek is in Spirit River and High Prairie in Falher.

All these games start at 8:30. These are the last games of 2025. The schedule resumes Jan. 3, 2026.

Holiday Ice Show

The Grande Prairie Skating Club is hosting its Holiday Ice Show Saturday at the Design Works Centre.

The show titled Turn Up the Radio will start at 2 p.m.

Admission is by donation.

Ski Hills

Nitehawk will be closed Friday night.

It still plans to be open on Saturday and Sunday.

The hours for the ski hill will be 10 a.m.-6 p.m.

The hours for the Tube Zone will be noon-2 and 2:30 to 4:30 p.m..

Whispering Pines Ski Hill plans to open for the season on Saturday.

The hill will not be open if it is -25 or colder at 7 a.m.
