Residential snow clearing delayed to December 29

Dec 20, 2025 | 2:08 PM

City Hall says due to the extreme cold and weather conditions, they are now focusing solely on priority roads for snow removal.

The next round of residential snow clearing in Grande Prairie will begin on Monday, Dec. 29.

The previously announced second round of residential snow removal that was to start on Monday, Dec. 22, will start a week later than originally planned.

In the meantime, city and contracted crews will be working on Priority 1, 2 and 3 road maintenance; with a focus on main arterial roads, transit routes, emergency access, and collector roads. This work will include plowing, sanding, echelon operations, and snow removal.

The City is thanking residents for their cooperation and patience as they work to keep the city connected during this period of extreme weather.

Since Dec. 5, the City says there has been:

  • 2,054 truckloads of snow removed from city streets, averaging to 158 loads per day
  • Approximately 21,000 tonnes taken off city streets

Winter parking bans remain in effect on Priority 1 and 2 roads Monday to Friday 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. to help snow removal operations flow smoothly.

The City is encouraging motorists to travel to the road conditions and give snow clearing equipment space to work.

What to expect come Dec. 29:

The second round of snow removal clearing in residential areas will proceed as a full two week rotation, following the standard A and B week schedule.

Residents are being reminded to keep their vehicles off the streets between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. to support snow removal operations.

Updates will continue to be shared at cityofgp.com/snow and through City communication channels. Residents are encouraged to sign up for text message reminders, which are sent the evening before their neighbourhood is scheduled for snow clearing.
