Jail sentence for one accused in drugs, weapons arrest

Alberta Justice says one of two people charged in a 2024 drugs and weapons arrest in the MD of Smoky River has been given a 30-month jail sentence.

Muhktar Ali of Nampa pleaded guilty to one count of possession for the purpose of trafficking and was sentenced on December 18 in Peace River court. Nine other charges were withdrawn.

Ali was given 25-months credit for pre-trial time spent in custody, leaving him five months left to serve.

He was one of two people arrested by McLennan RCMP on June 18, 2024.

Mounties said at the time they got a report of a suspicious vehicle, later finding the truck stuck in a farmer’s field.

The truck had been stolen.

A search of the vehicle turned up methamphetamine, cocaine, suspected fentanyl, weapons, ammunition, and stolen property.

There has been a stay of proceedings in place against the second accused, Hayes Fuller-Garand of Warburg, since April of this year.

Trial dates set in human trafficking case

Alberta Justice says two jury trials connected to a human trafficking investigation will be held in 2026.

ALERT arrested three suspects on September 19, 2023.

Investigators said at the time that a woman from Toronto was lured to Grande Prairie with what she was told was a legitimate job.

She was forced into working in the sex trade under threats of violence.

ALERT says she managed to escape in May of 2023 and contacted police in Toronto.

A trial for two of the accused; Romeo Junior Spence and Hipai Godfrey Bangisa, is scheduled for April 7 to 17.

The third man charged, Andre Wright, is scheduled to stand trial October 19-23, 2026.

Both trials will be held in Grande Prairie Court of King’s Bench.

Jail sentence in Peace River break and enter

Alberta Justice says an Atikameg man has been given a one-year jail sentence in connection with a break and enter in Peace River.

Evan Darcy Alook pleaded guilty to a charge of break and enter with intent in Peace River court.

Three other charges were withdrawn.

Alook was given a 365-day jail sentence, minus 22 days credit for time already spent in custody.

He was charged after a report of a business break-in on November 23, 2025.

Police did not find a suspect at the scene but did get security footage.

A suspect seen in that footage was later identified as the suspect getting into unlocked vehicles in a parking lot.

Time served sentence in High Prairie break and enter case

Alberta Justice says one of the two people charged after a break and enter in High Prairie has been given a sentence of 75 days already served in jail.

Jake Bouchard was found guilty of charges of flight from a peace officer, housebreaking with intent and mischief causing damage under $5,000 on December 16 in High Prairie court.

High Prairie RCMP said in late March of 2025 that they had received reports of multiple break-ins.

Police said cameras at an auto repair shop captured footage of three suspects during a break and enter on March 15.

Two of the three were identified and arrested.

The charges against Chelsie Courtney Lamouche were withdrawn on May 6, 2025.
