Christmas Tree Curbside Collection to start in January

Dec 29, 2025 | 1:12 PM

Christmas has come and gone, and the County and City of Grande Prairie want to remind residents of how to dispose of Christmas trees, natural or artificial.

County

If you’re already taking down your decorations and wondering where to dispose of your real or artificial tree, the County is offering curbside collection through Prairie Disposal between January 9-23, 2026.

You must:

  • Remove all decorations, lights, and tinsel
  • Cut tree into 4-foot sections or less
  • Place tree at least 1 metre away from waste cart

Artificial trees are NOT accepted curbside, but can be brought to the Clairmont Centre for Recycling and Waste Management or County transfer stations.

Artificial trees with lights attached are considered e-waste; artificial trees without lights are regular waste. If you’re unsure where to dispose of your artificial tree, a landfill or transfer station attendant will direct you.

City

Aquatera collects natural Christmas trees curbside or at the landfill free of charge in the City of Grande Prairie.

All lights and decorations must be removed and cut to four feet or less.

Christmas tree collection runs from January 5-23, 2026.

Trees must be placed at least one metre from your garbage cart by 7 a.m. on your collection day.

Artificial trees are NOT accepted curbside but can be brought to the landfill.
