ASIRT shares details on Jan. 6 officer involved shooting near Grande Prairie
The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team is sharing more details regarding an officer-involved shooting north of the City last week.
On Jan. 6 at about 3:00 p.m. Grande Prairie Rural RCMP responded to reports of an erratic driver, locating the suspect vehicle in a ditch.
ASIRT reports that when an officer approached to speak with the male driver, the man immediately attacked the officer with a knife, prompting the officer to shoot the man with a service pistol and then with a conducted energy weapon when he would not drop the knife.
RCMP took the man into custody, and he and the officer were both taken to hospital and treated for a gunshot wound and non-life-threatening injuries, respectively, before being released.
