With a break in the heavy snowfall, the Grande Prairie Police Service (GPPS) is reminding the public to follow all snow removal parking bans.

These reminders come as according to GPPS, 499 tickets have been issued since December; “Dec. 8 to (Dec.) 19, 344 parking violations were issued. Another 68 were issued during the second cycle from Dec. 22 to Jan. 2, and an additional 87 from Jan. 5th to (Jan.) 12.”

Police say ticketable infractions include parking on a permanent or temporary snow routes while bans are in place; police are also stressing that parking on a road with a windrow is not allowed and a ticketable offence, as it “obstructs plowing, snow loading, or traffic flow.”

GPPS add that these bans are put in place “to support safe and efficient snow removal” and will continue to be enforced throughout the winter.

Residents are reminded that “when parking bans are in effect, parking on Priority 1 and 2 routes is restricted from Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.” while “neighbourhood plow days, vehicles must be removed from streets between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., and parking isn’t allowed until the windrow is removed.”
