Alberta independence referendum petition

Alberta independence survey stations visit the Peace

Jan 21, 2026 | 12:32 PM

The Alberta independence referendum petition has made its way to the Peace region.

Signing stations were set up in Peace River and Fox Creek yesterday (Tuesday, Jan 20), with one now planned for today (Wednesday, Jan 21) at Fairview’s Dunvegan Motor Inn, starting at 4 p.m. with a guest speaker at 7 p.m.

A signing station will then be set up in Grande Prairie tomorrow (Thursday, Jan 22) near Muskoseepi Park at the Elks Lodge, also starting at 4 p.m. with a guest speaker at 7 p.m.

There is also a chance to sign the petition Friday, Jan. 23, as a station will be set up between Beaverlodge and Hythe on Highway 43, at Albright Hall.

People are being reminded that this is not an official vote to separate from Canada, but instead poses the question, “Do you agree that the Province of Alberta should cease to be a part of Canada to become an independent state?”

Organizers say the petition is also available at Bullets & Broadheads from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday to Friday.

Another event is planned for February 3, starting at 4 p.m. in the Grande Prairie Elks Hall.
