Province announces funding for Tsuut’ina Nation Police Service

The province is providing $1.5 million to the Tsuut’ina Nation Police Service for a new satellite detachment.

The funding will ensure the Tsuut’ina police have modern facilities that can deliver effective, culturally responsive policing.

The satellite detachment will also significantly reduce response time for the non-Indigenous community of Redwood Meadows, which is located on the nation’s land and takes up to 45 minutes of travel time for responders to reach from the main detachment.

“Our government reaffirms its commitment to protecting communities and creating opportunities for all Albertans to live in a save community, no matter where they live in our province,” says Nolan Dyck, parliamentary secretary for Indigenous and rural policing. “This funding will help ensure Tsuut’ina Nation Police Service (Tosguna) has the modern facilities needed to provide effective policing and keep its communities safe in the future.”

The investment is part of the province’s ongoing work to strengthen self-administered First Nations police services, including $30.9 million to support policing in communities with new and expanded facilities, as well as operational support.
