Grande Prairie Storm fans will have to say goodbye to beloved forward and assistant captain Zachary Wilson at the end of the season, as he is committed to joining Niagara University next year.

Storm GM Mike Bomersback said he will be missed by all in Grande Prairie, and “seeing him develop as a player and grow as a person since he first arrived here four years ago has been a pleasure to watch.”

Bomersback added that Wilson has been a huge part of their success and culture during his time here,  and always wore “the Storm logo with pride.”

During his time in GP, Wilson was awarded the team Community Involvement award in 2024 and the Two-way Player Award in 2025. He suited up for 152 games over four seasons for the Storm including playoffs, with 102 points, thanks to 53 goals and 49 helpers.

Wilson is also familiar with sin bins across the province, with 251 career penalty minutes.

In a release, the Westakwin native says he is “excited to commit to Niagara and have the chance to experience the culture out East:” and thanked his “family, coaches, staff and friends” who helped push him to where he is now.

Before that, Wilson will have to finish the season with the Storm, who only have seven games left before playoffs.
