Storm Captain commits to U of A for 2026/27 season
The Grande Prairie Storm will be needing an all-new leadership group next season, as Captain Colin Doherty joins his two assistants in announcing his commitment to move on from the Storm.
Doherty has committed to returning home and playing for the University of Alberta Golden Bears next season; following his assistant captains Chase Christensen and Zachary Wilson out the door, as they announced their commitment to join Niagara University in the ACHA next year.
Originally from Sherwood Park, GM Mike Bomersback says the U of A has a rich history and is located right in Doherty’s backyard; “It’s a team/school he truly wanted the opportunity to play for and attend next season. This achievement is well deserved, reflecting his outstanding work ethic, dedication, character, leadership abilities, and the complete 200-foot game he brings night in and night out.”
Doherty, in his three seasons with the Storm, played 130 games, while splitting time between GP and the Spruce Grove Saints of the BCHL last year, still collected 123 points with 55 goals, and currently leads the Storm in scoring with 50 points.
