Five-year jail sentence handed to accused after two children stabbed in Grande Prairie incident

Mar 3, 2026 | 6:00 AM

Alberta Justice says the person charged after two kids were stabbed in an incident last year in Grande Prairie has been given a total jail sentence of five years.

The accused was given a 54-month jail sentence Monday in Grande Prairie court on a charge of aggravated assault, plus a consecutive sentence of six months in jail on another charge of assault with a weapon.

This person’s name cannot be broadcast or published because of a court-ordered publication ban on the name of the accused.

Grande Prairie RCMP said at the time that on February 19, 2025, they were called out to help EMS with a child who had what police described as a “serious non-life-threatening wound.” They were taken to hospital in Grande Prairie for treatment, then later taken to the Stollery Children’s Hospital in Edmonton.

A second child had what Mounties called “minor wounds from a knife.”

The accused was also given a 10-year firearm prohibition.

A charge of arson-damage to property from a second arrest was withdrawn.
