One seriously injured in SUV vs train collision at Burdett
A 49-year-old woman from Burdett, Alta, was taken to hospital with very serious injuries Wednesday afternoon after a train struck an SUV crossing the tracks near the community.
On March 25, 2026, at 2:39 p.m., Bow Island RCMP were called to the scene where a northbound SUV driving along Main Street in Burdett, just off Highway 3, had been struck by a train while the vehicle was crossing the tracks.
An RCMP spokesperson says the train stopped following the collision, adding that the driver of the SUV was the sole occupant of the vehicle and was taken by ground ambulance to hospital.
Officials with the Transportation Safety Board (TSB) confirm a CPKC train was proceeding westward when it struck a vehicle at a public crossing at mile 47.99 of the Taber Subdivision. The TSB says there was no derailment following the collision.
