“Toy gun” disturbance at NWP credited for earlier lockdown

Mar 25, 2026 | 9:54 PM

Grande Prairie RCMP provided more information on today’s (Wednesday, Mar. 25) lockdown at Muskoseepi Park.

Mounties say they responded to a disturbance at Northwestern Polytechnic; “a lone male had become aggressive, causing a disturbance and pointing what appeared to be a toy gun with an orange tip at several individuals in and around the College.”

RCMP say the same male was then seen at multiple other locations around Grande Prairie, prior to their arrest.

Officer patrols eventually led to the suspect being tracked down, and police confirmed the firearm as a replica.

At this time, Mounties say there is no threat to the public, and more information will become available when the “charges are sworn.”
