Recall petition for MLA Wiebe collects only 279 signatures

Elections Alberta has posted the results for unsuccessful recall petitions against four United Conservative caucus members.

Grande Prairie Wapiti MLA Ron Wiebe is now out of the hot seat after the petition against him only gathered 279 signatures of out 11,921 needed to be successful.

The other petitions were against Justice Minister Mickey Amery, MLA Justin Wright, and MLA Jackie Armstrong-Homeniuk.

All two dozen petitions launched against Premier Danielle Smith and members of her UCP caucus since late last year have now fallen short or been withdrawn.

Another petition against Opposition NDP member Peggy Wright was deemed invalid when the results were not submitted within the three-month deadline.

Now there are just two active petitions in the province targeting Progressive Tory Party Leader Peter Guthrie and NDP MLA Marie Renaud.
