Mar 30, 2026 | 12:46 PM

“Unseasonably cold early spring weather” hit much of the province, according to Environment Canada, with two areas in the Peace region setting new daily minimum records.

According to EC, both the Peace River and Red Earth Creek areas set a new daily minimum temperature on Sunday, for Mar. 29.

The Peace River area broke an almost 100-year-old record with a low of -25.4°C, beating out -23.9°C set back in 1934; records have been kept in this area since 1907.

Red Earth Creek’s previous record was more recent as the area only started recording in 1984. A chilling -27.8°C was recorded on Sunday, surpassed the former daily minimum of -26.1°C set in 2018.
