Sport Excellence Awards recipients

The Grande Prairie Regional Sport Connection’s Sport Excellence Awards were given out Friday night at Evergreen Park.

An email from the organization says that the following are the 2026 Recipients:

Female Athlete of the Year – Ferris Sandboe, strongman
Male Athlete of the Year – Oliver Dawson, swimming
Outstanding Official – Lisa Denault, basketball
Junior Official – Priya Pilat, basketball
Coach of the Year – Phil Duffy, basketball
Unsung Hero – Steve Magusin, multi-sport
Award of Excellence – Oliver Dawson, swimming
Developmental Coach of the Year – Esther Bylsma futsal, soccer and Ryan LaCroix, basketball
Team of the Year – Peace Wapiti Academy Titans, volleyball
Junior Male Athlete of the Year – Kehlan Duncan, multi-sport
Junior Female Athlete of the Year – Katelyn Siebert, gymnastics
Sport Builder – John MacLennan, speed skating and Robin Peterman, taekwondo
Event of the Year – Special Olympics Alberta Summer Games

The group also says this is the first time the ‘Award of Sport Excellence‘ has been given out, saying in a news release that it is “a prestigious honour presented to individuals who demonstrate outstanding performances in their sport.”
