GPPS detective becomes polygraph certified

Apr 7, 2026 | 12:42 PM

Grande Prairie Police Service’s ranks now include Alberta’s newest polygraph examiner.

Detective Jason McCormick has been fully certified after completing the Canadian Police College Polygraph Examiners Course, making him one of only eight polygraph examiners in Alberta.

Officials say the course involved an intensive academic phase, supervised internships, and an extensive certification process spanning nearly a year.

GPPS says polygraph examinations are typically used in the later stages of serious investigations to help assess truthfulness, narrow investigative focus, and support interview strategies.

“I want to congratulate Detective McCormick on achieving this significant milestone,” says GPPS Chief Dwayne Lakusta. “Becoming a certified polygraph examiner requires a high level of dedication, professionalism, and expertise. This accomplishment not only reflects his commitment to his work but also strengthens our ability to serve the community through advanced investigative tools and techniques.”

McCormick will be able to enhance GPPS investigative capacity, support major case investigations, and contribute to integrity-based hiring through pre-employment polygraph examinations.

The Examiners Course is an internationally recognized program that trains experienced investigators from police, military, and intelligence agencies around the world.
