Sturgeon Lake firearms complaint leads to a successful search warrant

Last month, Valleyview RCMP took two suspects into custody and seized several illegal items following a firearms complaint.

On Mar. 25, Officers were called to a shots-fired incident at a residence in Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation; however, the two men fled the scene in a stolen vehicle before police arrived.

Mounties then tracked them down to another residence in that community, and the pair was arrested, which resulted in a search warrant being executed later in the day.

During the search, a number of illegal items were seized:

  • Firearms
  • Prohibited weapons
  • Ammunition
  • 110 grams of Cocaine
  • 51 grams of Methamphetamine
  • 269 grams of cutting agent

An 18-year-old Sturgeon Lake resident Darcy Kappo had six charges laid against him:

  • Two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking
  • Reckless discharge of a firearm
  • Possession of property obtained by crime
  • Assault
  • Mischief

Twenty-six-year-old Sturgeon Lake resident Darcy Chalifoux received seven charges:

  • Two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking
  • Two counts of forcible confinement
  • Assault
  • Reckless discharge of a firearm
  • Possession of property obtained by crime

    Both were remanded into custody with court dates in Valleyview this week; Kappo will appear on Monday, Apr. 13, while Chalifoux will be in court on Thursday Apr. 16.
