Alberta RCMP celebrating National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week

Apr 14, 2026 | 2:41 PM

Alberta RCMP is celebrating its Operational Communications Centres and their operators.

Apr. 12-18 is National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, and the RCMP are recognizing OCC operators for their work to ensure public safety, averaging 14,044 total calls per week.

Alberta RCMP is also reminding community members that emergency communication centres are busy at all hours with incoming calls related to public safety, and 911 should only be used in emergency situations.

Non-emergencies do not pose an immediate threat to public safety, often include crimes that have already taken place, and only require police response, not attendance.

In non-emergency situations, Albertans are encouraged to call 310-7267 or 310-RCMP.
