Major Crimes Unit investigating Peace River homicide

Alberta RCMP’s Major Crimes Unit has taken over a homicide investigation in Peace River, stemming from a death earlier today (Thursday, April 23).

At 4:23 a.m., Mounties were called to Petro Canada on 78 Street as a man was found deceased at the gas pumps.

According to footage obtained by Officers, two hours before they were called, a suspect stole a red 2005 Dodge Caravan taxi and ran over the vehicle’s owner before fleeing, resulting in his death.

The suspect is described by police as last seen wearing a black jacket, blue jeans, a black t-shirt with a white decal, black boots, one grey glove and one black glove.

Since then, the vehicle has been recovered, and the RCMP are now asking anyone who has seen the cab, with license plate L98636, between 2 a.m. and 2 p.m. today, to contact Peace River RCMP at 780-624-6611, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
