Slave Lake returns to NWJHL

Apr 28, 2026 | 12:27 PM

Another team is to be added into the Strike Group North West Junior Hockey League next season.

The Junior B hockey league is welcoming the return of the Slave Lake Wolves, after the team dissolved from the NWJHL in 2014.

At their annual general meeting held on April 27, a motion was passed by NWJHL board members to accept the team into the league.

Slave Lake Wolves will be led by General Manager Calvin Beauchamp and President Alex Pavcek; who are said to be in the process for recruiting players and interviewing for coaching staff.

This expansion team means the Strike NWJHL will have a 40-game regular season when it starts on September 18, 2026.

There are now nine teams in the league:

  • La Crete Lumber Barons, who won the league championship and Alberta Junior B provincials in 2026
  • North Peace Navigators (Peace River)
  • Fairview Flyers
  • Sundown Oilfield Services Sexsmith Vipers
  • County of Grande Prairie Wheat Kings
  • Beaverlodge Blades
  • Dawson Creek Kodiaks
  • Fort St. John Huskies
  • Slave Lake Wolves
