Two football players originally from this area, who played on the same university team, are continuing their careers after getting picked in the 2026 Canadian Football League Draft.

The Edmonton Elks selected the University of Alberta’s Carter Kettlye in the third round, 21st overall.

The 6’1″ wide receiver from Grovedale won’t have to get used to new colours on the field after playing 22 games over four years with the Golden Bears. He recorded 101 receptions for 1,695 yards and 17 touchdowns.

The Elks seventh round, 59th overall pick, is U of A offensive lineman Matthew Ljuden.

The 6’0″ Grande Prairie product played three seasons with the Golden Bears, dressing for 21 games.

They were also teammates at St. Joe’s in their high school careers.
