Grande Prairie Public School Division is praising one of their students for her meaningful impact within her school and community.

Arianna LaBrecque-Demerais is a Grade 11 student at the Grande Prairie Composite High School and one of 12 students awarded with the 2026 Honouring Spirit: Indigenous Student Award from the Alberta School Boards Association.

The award recognizes First Nations, Metis, and Inuit students who demonstrate a strong commitment to their cultures and educational journeys.

A member of the Gitanmaax Nation, LaBrecque-Demerais brings community members together by performing traditional Fancy Shawl Dance and recently showcased Indigenous culture at the 2026 Arctic Winter Games.

“Arianna truly embodies the spirit of this award,” said Stacy Lamoureaux, Indigenous Liaison with Grande Prairie Composite High School. “Through her cultural pride, academic excellence, strong work ethic, and genuine care for others, she stands as an inspiration to her peers and a role model within her school and community.”

The award recipients were recognized at a ceremony held in Edmonton on April 20.
