Elm Pruning Ban

Province-wide measures to limit Dutch Elm Disease in effect

Apr 30, 2026 | 6:02 AM

A province-wide elm pruning back is now in effect until Sept. 30.

The City says this is done to prevent the spread of Dutch Elm Disease (DED), as elm bark beetles are attracted to freshly cut or damaged elm wood.

The City says that by putting this ban in effect, it supports Grande Prairie’s urban forest, which leads to a “healthy, resilient and vibrant community.”

They add that crews will also continue their year-round tree maintenance and respond to any priority concerns.

Anyone with questions about the elm pruning ban or have concerns about any trees can contact AccessGP 311.
