“Very high” wildfire danger level for parts of County

May 4, 2026 | 2:20 PM

Parts of the County of Grande Prairie currently sit at a very high wildfire danger rating.

Alberta Wildfire’s Fire Danger Rating map shows that the affected area starts just east of Grande Prairie and stretches west, stopping short of the B.C. border.

Despite record-breaking snowfalls in the region over the winter; “High-intensity fire is expected and likely to spread to treetops,” and can “start easily and challenge suppression efforts,” according to Alberta Wildfire.

Anyone wanting to stay up to date with wildfire danger levels can view the Alberta Wildfire Status map, on their website.

Residents are also reminded to call 310-FIRE (3473), to report any blaze they may come across while enjoying the outdoors this summer.
