City of Grande Prairie kicks off gardening season with GP Grows: Dig It May 9

May 8, 2026 | 12:13 PM

The City of Grande Prairie’s free event to help local gardens returns Saturday, May 9.

GP Grows: Dig It is an event designed to give away seed potatoes, onions, and triple-mix soil provided by KLon Services to promote home gardening.

Participants are asked to bring containers up to a maximum of 20 gallons and can also enter to win a backyard orchard of apple trees, berry bushes, and more.

“GP Grows is about making it easier for residents to get started with growing their own gardens while connecting with others in the community,” said City of Grande Prairie Mayor Jackie Clayton. “Dig It brings people together in a hands-on way that reflects the kind of welcoming, active community we continue to build in Grande Prairie.”

GP Grows Dig It is happening at Keyera Place Saturday from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
