Maskwa Medical Centre, agreement with Horse Lake discussed at special meeting of County of Grande Prairie Council

May 16, 2026 | 6:01 AM

County of Grande Prairie Council has given first reading to a bylaw that would allow a loan guarantee for the Maskwa Medical Centre.

The facility’s board is asking for a guarantee of $5.836,825 to back a loan of $23,347,283 from ATB.

Council says it wants to see the loan terms first.

A draft plan is expected to come to the next regular council meeting. This will include how information will be shared with ratepayers and how feedback from the public will be gathered.

At this same meeting, council also approved having administration put together a partnership agreement with Horse Lake First Nation.

This would allow Horse Lake to apply for funding under the Green Municipal Fund, a grant program run by the Federation of Canadian Municipalities.

This pays for feasibility studies for energy-efficient, low-carbon buildings.

The next regular meeting is set for May 25
