Emergency Department closure

Temporary Emergency Department closure in Spirit River

May 16, 2026 | 5:59 PM

Alberta Health Services says a temporary closure at the Emergency Department at the Central Peace Health Complex in Spirit River will start at 7 p.m. tonight (Saturday, May 16).

It will last until 7 a.m. on Sunday, May 17.

AHS says the closure is needed “due to an unexpected shortage of clinical operations personnel and an inability to secure temporary coverage.”

AHS also says the following in a news release sent out late Saturday afternoon.

Patients are asked to call 911 if they have a medical emergency during this time. EMS will remain available to the community and will be re-routed to surrounding facilities, including Grande Prairie Regional Hospital.

Residents are reminded to call Health Link at 811, which is available 24/7, for non-emergency, health-related questions.
