Spirit River Regional Academy Grade-12 student named 2026 Teacher Bursary recipient

Peace Wapiti Public School Division is congratulating the most recent recipient of their teacher bursary program.

Spirit River Regional Academy Grade-12 student Jaxon Stoke has been named the 2026 Teacher Bursary recipient, as he plans to pursue a degree in secondary education at the University of Alberta in the fall.

Officials say Stokes will be specializing in physical education and career and technology studies.

“When I was in Grade 10, I was given the opportunity to coach a Grade 5-6 basketball team of boys and girls,” Stokes says. “We participated in two tournaments that year, and the team won the gold medal in the final tournament. It brought me joy seeing the younger children love a sport just as much as I do.”

“He has volunteered his time coaching basketball for a local elementary tournament and has assisted in coaching the junior high boys’ volleyball team,” says SRRA Principal Daren Pullishy. “He is always willing to mentor younger students and contribute meaningfully beyond his own academic and athletic responsibilities.”

The PWPSD Teacher Bursary provides $3,000 per year to cover the costs associated with the teacher education program and provides recipients with a position upon their graduation.
