Manslaughter sentence handed down after 2023 shooting death at Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation

Jun 1, 2026 | 6:01 AM

Alberta Justice says a man charged after the 2023 shooting death of a Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation woman has been given a six-year jail sentence after being convicted on a manslaughter charge.

Vincent Campiou was given the 2,198-day sentence May 27 in Grande Prairie court.

He was originally charged with murder after the shooting death of 59-year-old Patricia Campiou on March 12, 2023, at a Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation home.

Mounties said at the time they got the report at around 8 p.m. that day.

Vincent Campiou was to stand trial for murder in January of this year, but was convicted of the lesser charge of manslaughter in November of last year.
