Jun 16, 2026 | 12:59 PM

Northwestern Polytechnic was named alongside a number of western Canadian polytechnics to receive funding for applied research and innovation.

The Prairie Polytechnic Innovation Network Accelerating Commercialization for Local Ecosystems (P2INACLE), which is made up of NAIT, SAIT, Red Deer Polytechnic, RRC Polytech, Saskatchewan Polytechnic, and Northwestern Polytechnic; recieved $586,000 from Prairies Economic Development Canada (PrairiesCan).

The funding will now be used to identify “real-world solutions that can be leveraged by the mining industry.” Already, NWP has been exploring ways to improve industrial safety.

NWP President and CEO Dr. Vanessa Sheane says this opportunity “creates opportunities for industry, communities, and students alike.”

“Through P2INACLE, Northwestern Polytechnic is proudly contributing to innovative solutions that help address real-world challenges while providing students with valuable hands-on learning experiences. This investment strengthens collaboration across the Prairies and supports economic growth in our region and beyond.”
