Severe Thunderstorm Watch covers Peace Region
Environment Canada says conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain today (Wednesday, June 17).
These thunderstorms are expected in the northwest portion of the province, covering the entirety of the Peace Region north of Webster, and will persist into the evening.
The national weather office says when thunder roars, go indoors, as lightning kills and injures Canadians every year.
There is also a Special Weather Statement in effect for central Alberta, including Fox Creek and Highway 43 towards Alberta’s capital city, as conditions are favourable for the development of funnel clouds this afternoon and evening.
