Vigen makes new track record at Day 2 of Wainwright Stampede

Jun 20, 2026 | 2:04 PM

The conditions were right on Friday night at the Wainwright Stampede for Grande Prairie native Chanse Vigen to break a longstanding track record and win the day money.

The second night of professional chuckwagon racing saw Vigen cross the finish line with a time of 1:01.98 from barrel two in the 12th heat, beating the 46-year-old record set by Richard Cosgrave back in 1980.

Vigen crossed the finish line three-tenths of a second faster than Rae Croteau Jr. Jamie Laboucane would’ve taken the track record if it wasn’t if wasn’t for a late outrider penalty, but still finished third on the night. Rounding out the top five of the night was Kris Molle and Fairview’s Cody Ridsdale.

With back-to-back second-place finishes, Croteau Jr. leads the overall aggregate standings with a two-run total of 2:05.89. Laboucane sits in second, just under one-half second behind Croteau, while Vigen holds down third. Opening-night winner Logan Gorst is 1.15 seconds behind Vigen in the battle for the final Championship Final berth, with Jason Glass rounding out the top five after two runs.

The top three in the aggregate standings after Saturday night will advance to Sunday’s Championship Final Heat; where the winner will be crowned the 2026 Wainwright Stampede Champion.
