ASIRT finds no unlawful action in RCMP-involved fatal shooting last summer
ASIRT has wrapped up an investigation into a fatal shooting last summer involving local Grande Prairie RCMP officers, deciding Mounties used “proportionate, necessary and reasonable force.”
According to ASIRT’s report, a police chase ensued with a driver on July 18, 2025, after he was observed driving at a high rate of speed, parking on someone’s lawn, and driving past the RCMP detachment three times, with the final time just stopping at the entrance, revving his engine.
A short while later, the driver got stuck in the mud outside the City, which led to him exiting the vehicle and surrendering to RCMP, but he then went back into the vehicle, grabbed a firearm and pointed it at officers, resulting in him being shot multiple times.
The weapon was later determined to be a Valken tactical black airsoft rifle.
