Grande Prairie male facing sexual offence charges as RCMP seek other victims

Jun 25, 2026 | 1:37 PM

Grande Prairie RCMP is seeking any potential victims of an alleged sex offender currently in custody.

Numerous charges were laid against 32-year-old Grande Prairie resident Joseph Kidd, including sexual assault, assault while choking, forcible confinement, and abduction of a person under 14-years-old.

RCMP Superintendent Mark MacDougald says on April 17, 2026, a 14-year-old female BC resident attended the detachment and reported Kidd.

“The victim was from BC and said that she met Kidd via social media,” says MacDougald. “Kidd drove to BC to pick her up and drove her back to his residence in Grande Prairie. She was there for approximately one week and was able to leave the residence after Kidd left to go to work.”

MacDougald describes these circumstances as “alarming.”

“We do have open doors 24/7 and encourage people to come to the office or to report on phone or online,” MacDougald says. “Because of the specific circumstances in this, it is alarming to the public, and that is why we’re bringing the information to [the media’s] attention today to share publicly.”

Kidd was charged with the following:

  • Sexual assault
  • Sexual interference
  • Forcible confinement
  • Assault while choking
  • Unsafe storage of a firearm

Following Kidd’s release on conditions April 30, RCMP responded to a 911 call at his residence May 10 and discovered an 18-year-old female he had allegedly driven to Lloydminster to pick up, later allegedly assaulted her when she refused to have sexual relations with him.

Kidd was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Assault
  • Assault while choking
  • Sexual assault
  • Fail to comply with release order (x3)

Kidd was released on June 1, 2026, by a Justice of the Peace with several conditions and $7,500 cash bail to attend the Alberta Court of Justice in Grande Prairie on June 22, 2026.

On June 18, the RCMP were contacted by a 15-year-old female who alleged Kidd was following her and had assaulted her sometime between June 4 and 18, resulting in Kidd facing additional charges:

  • Criminal harassment
  • Sexual interference
  • Sexual assault
  • Fail to comply with release conditions

Also on June 18, a mother reported a suspect attempted to lure her 12-year-old daughter into a yellow Chevrolet Camaro, which matched the car Kidd was found driving shortly after.

Kidd was subsequently charged with the following:

  • Abduction of a person under 14-years-old
  • Fail to comply with release conditions

Kidd is currently being held in custody to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice in Grande Prairie July 2.

MacDougald says Kidd’s previous releases were per judicial orders.

“Release decisions are made independently of the police,” MacDougald says. “They are made through a judicial process and subject to the legal framework that applies to all accused people in Canada. Police present the information and evidence during the investigation, but ultimately decisions about release, detention, and conditions are made through the court process.”

He says preventative measures will be taken if Kidd is released following his court appearance.

“If Mr. Kidd is released, court process will impose conditions as required,” he says. “Part of that education piece, if you will, for parents and guardians out there is bringing the information to media outlets to potentially avoid any further incidents.”

RCMP believe there may be more victims and have released photos of Kidd and his vehicle.

“Parents and guardians, please show a picture to your children and talk to them about safe use of social media,” he says. “If you believe you are a victim of Kidd or have information regarding any of these incidents, contact the RCMP or the police of jurisdiction in your nearest community. The RCMP and the Grande Prairie Police Service are here to help you.”

MacDougald says there is no evidence to suggest any more victims exist currently.

“We are bringing the information public today to provide that piece to the public in case there are other victims out there that previously may have been uncomfortable coming forward,” he says. “We stand united together to ensure we support those victims and help them through any court processes.”

Anyone who believes they or someone they know might have been a victim is asked to contact the RCMP at 780-830-5700 or 5701 or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS), online at www.P3Tips.com, or by using the “P3 Tips” app available through the Apple App or Google Play Store.
