PCA offering sun safety tips for outdoor activities

Jul 6, 2026 | 4:14 PM

Primary Care Alberta is reminding everyone to stay safe while enjoying the summer weather.

PCA is offering tips to avoid heat-related illnesses, such as wearing a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher, drinking lots of water, and taking frequent breaks from the heat in cooled indoor spaces.

They also suggest limiting your consumption of alcohol or cannabis products while out in the sun and avoiding them altogether if you are driving or participating in dangerous activities.

Children, older adults, and those with pre-existing medical conditions are particularly vulnerable to heat exhaustion and dehydration.

If you believe someone is suffering from heat stroke, you should move them to a shaded area, remove their outer clothing and shoes, wrap them in a wet towel, and get medical attention.
