Highlights from Monday’s meeting of Grande Prairie City Council

Jul 8, 2026 | 6:02 AM

Grande Prairie City Council met on Monday afternoon.

Council has asked administration to do an overview of stormwater modelling work in the Mountview area.

This came about after a resident talked to council about flooding in his basement because of a sewage backup. He told council his basement flooded in late June of this year and early August of last year. He says he has a working sump pump, but it could not keep up with the water, and that the drains and pipes were all clean. The flooding cost him over $100,000 and everything that was in the basement.

He also told council that the sewer lines had been changed in his area during some street work and that his home had never flooded before that. He also said the City and Aquatera each told him that this was the other entity’s responsibility. The delegate also said there were other homes flooded in his area.

Council also asked administration to follow up with the delegate.

Councillor Grant Berg told council that a city committee had heard from Alberta Health Services that two new pediatricians have signed contracts to come to Grande Prairie. They are expected to begin practicing in the Swan City this fall.

Council approved a newly updated procurement policy. It had not been updated since 2018. The changes were mostly housekeeping.

Council’s next meeting will be on July 20.
