Construction begins on Crystal Lake Arboretum

Jul 8, 2026 | 1:39 PM

Construction has begun on a new amenity at Crystal Lake Park.

The city says the Crystal Lake Arboretum will bring new tree groves and walking trails to the park. It will also feature interpretive signage highlighting the different tree species and their role in local ecosystems.

“Crystal Lake Park is already one of Grande Prairie’s most enjoyed outdoor spaces, and the arboretum will add another reason for residents and visitors to explore everything the park has to offer,” said City of Grande Prairie Mayor Jackie Clayton. “This project creates a beautiful new place to enjoy, learn, and connect with nature while celebrating the forests that make our region unique.”

The project is part of the City of Grande Prairie’s Urban Forest Strategy and is being funded by the Forest Resource Improvement Association of Alberta.

Construction is anticipated to be complete by the end of August. Several park trails will be closed while the work is ongoing.
