Funding announced to fast track public school projects in Peace Region

Jul 9, 2026 | 2:13 PM

The provincial government is fast-tracking the construction and design of new school projects, including two in the Peace Region.

Through the latest round of Schools Now accelerations, 41 projects are anticipated to be completed nine months sooner than expected.

Funding is being provided to Holy Family Catholic Regional Division and Peace Wapiti Public School Division for the design of the new St. Thomas More School and the construction of the new Peace Wapiti Academy, respectively.

“Having a school in the community is a tremendous benefit for families. It allows students to learn, grow, and thrive close to home,” says Demetrios Nicolaides, Minister of Education and Childcare. “These accelerated school projects will help ensure more families across Alberta have access to a local school in their community.”

The Schools Now program is an $8.6 billion investment to deliver about 200,000 new student spaces by 2031-32.

“Getting schools built faster matters to Alberta families,” says Martin Long, Minister of Infrastructure. “By accelerating 41 projects through the Schools Now program, we are moving more than 39,000 student spaces closer to construction and ensuring communities see real progress sooner.”

There are currently 159 active school projects in Alberta.
